EUSB kit reads temperature via I2C-Temperature-Sensor

 

EID's universal serial bus (EUSB) to I2C temperature silicon based sensor kit (reads IC's temperature via I2C) is an educational electronics kit that allows one to connect one Maxim/ Dallas DS16XX or NSC LM75 Temperature sensor to your Personal Computer (PC) Universal serial port. You can mount the temperature IC on either side of the PCB board. On the component side via 8 pin DIP, or on the bottom side, via surface mount (SMT) method.

 

The kit is based on Cypress integrated circuit (IC), the CY7C63001.

 

Note: The CY7C63001 IC is Universal Serial Bus (USB) RISC type Micro-controller. It conforms to USB 1.5 Mbps specification, version 1.1. See USB specifications at www.usb.org for more details, or click here to download the the CY7C63001 chip data-sheet.

 

No need for external Power supply! Just plug to your computer and monitor your room temperature.

 

The kit is ideal for monitoring your server room, office or computer temperatures.

Free demo software (see above screen shots) allows you to fully read and log the temperature sensor . The on board temperature sensor is a I2C controlled Integrated circuit (IC). The sensor's ambient temperature can be displayed in both Fahrenheit (F) and degrees Centigrade (C). 

 

We implemented very minimal log mechanisms with this demo software. You can log the readings into pre-specified file, named: EUSB_Temperature.txt. The software will automatically save it in the same directory you install into your demo software. The log file is limited to 1000 lines. The logged temperature readings includes automatic stamping of time and date. This unique free feature allows you to monitor the temperature over time. Simply choose from on screen the interval you want the temperature to be logged (1-100 seconds).

 

You can open the log file from other programs while the demo software is running and logging to the same file. Our free demo code includes built-in  implementation of Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) functions that allows you to do so. You can open the file in MS-Excel, MS-Word, Notepad etc. Simply share it and read it from anywhere over the network. (MS- Excel, MS-Word and Notepad are trademarks of Microsoft corp.)

All you need to do is plug-in the kit via EUSB cable to your PC, run the free demo software, and viola, you can log and  read sensor ambient temperature.

The LEDs shown above schematics (options) can be ordered separately. I.e. you can indicate, by turning the LED on, any of the following examples: When an alert occurs, status of the I2C bus lines  (SCL and SDA lines), or any other information you deem important.

 


Software and schematic notes

 

1. FREE pre-installed EUSB firmware.

 

2. LEDs (option) are controlled via the following Ports and bit-number:

P0.5 - L1 (Red LED)

P0.7 - L3 (Red LED)

+5V - LP (Red LED)

3. I2C lines 8-pin DIN or SMT (on PCB solder side) socket controlled via the following Ports and bit-number:

SCL (I2C clock line) Via P1.2 - (pin 6)

SDA (I2C data line) Via P1.0 - (pin 5)

4. I2C temperature sensor physical address is  7 (seven), 111 logic.  All address lines are tied to +5V. Therefore, A0="1", A1="1" and A2="1:"

 

5. No need for external pull-up resistors for the I2C lines in this kit! They are provided (set) internally on-chip via our unique firmware (provided free with your kit). The Cypress USB IC (CY7C63001) has built-in pull-up software controlled resistors.
