The
temperature
range is based on the abilities of the glass stem, not the
overall combination electrode.
Response
time is the time to 96%. All response times are calculated on the pH stem level. The
response time varies due to the various electrolytes used in our
electrodes.
All above measurements are statistical averages of 1000 electrodes,
which are chosen randomly by our quality assurance department.
A
spherical-shaped bulb will provide 96% response in less than one
second. It has low impedance and fast response but is relatively
fragile. pH electrodes with spherical shaped surfaces are
designed so that the bulb is recessed inside the electrode body.
Such designs protect the glass bulb against breakage.
A
hemispherical shaped bulb is a mechanically stronger shape than
the spherical shape. As a result, it has a higher impedance and slightly slower
response. These shapes are often used in a fully exposed manner.
A
flat measuring surface is a very durable shape. It makes good
sample contact (ideal for petri-dishes etc.), is easily cleaned,
is very strong mechanically, but relatively high impedance and
semi-slow response, 96% in less than 4.5 seconds.
A
Hard glass measuring surface is usually manufactured as a spear
or dome shape. It
makes good penetration into sample contact, very strong
mechanically, and one of the highest impedance and slowest
response, 96% in less than 7 seconds.
